State of the Arts 2008


 

Join the Prairie Village Arts Council in the Second Annual State of the Arts exhibition sponsored by the Prairie Village Arts Council in the Prairie Village Municipal Offices' R.G. Endres Gallery. Artwork selected for this exhibition will be featured in the Prairie Village Municipal Offices' R.G. Endres Gallery during the month of October, 2008. A welcoming reception honoring the artists and their work will be held on Friday, October 10th.

Three prizes of $1,000 will be awarded, through the generous participation of The Columbian Bank and Trust Company, including the R.G. Endres Memorial Best of Show Award.

State of the Arts is a tremendous opportunity for artists in Johnson County and throughout the metropolitan area to present and sell their artwork in the community. Full information is available by downloading the Call for Entries. The entry deadline is August 28th, so apply now.

Our Juror, Jan Schall

Jan Schall is the Sanders Sosland Curator of Contemporary Art at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City. Schall holds a doctorate in art history from the University of Texas at Austin and a master's degree in arts history from Washington University in St. Louis. In 2000, she curated the National Endowment for the Arts-supported millennium exhibition Tempus Fugit: Time Flies, and produced both its accompanying catalogue and award-winning website. More recently, she has guided collection development, co-curated a five-part exhibition of New Media Projects, directed both the renovation and reinstallation of the Museum's Kansas City Sculpture Park and the program development and installation of the modern and contemporary collection of the expanded Museum. She is currently at work on a catalogue of the collection and several future exhibitions. Formerly a professor of art history at the University of Florida, she maintains an active teaching schedule at the Museum and frequently serves as Lecturer at the University of Kansas. Schall's research has been supported by grants from the NEA, the German Academic Exchange Service and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

The Prairie Village Arts Council is seeking entries from qualified artists to participate in the inaugural State of the Arts Exhibition at the Municipal Offices' R.G. Endres Gallery.
